LOCAL 1040

Season of Giving

Local 1040 of the Communications Workers of America, AFL/CIO, has made a holiday donation of some 321 clothing items to Homefront a non-profit Trenton based organization which provides shelter and assistance to the homeless.

“The staff of Local 1040 and our Community Services and Equity/Civil Rights Committees, and our Retirees Club 95, were instrumental in making this donation to Homefront” said Local 1040 President Carolyn C. Wade.

The holiday donation is part of Local 1040’s continuous support of community activities, which also includes an Annual Blood Drive as part of the Local’s annual Labor of Love Community Day held in August.

“I take my hat off to our staff, the members of our committees and our retired members for giving so unselfishly towards the holiday donation” said Wade. “The clothing items were purchased through individual donations and not through Local 1040 funds.”

Wade personally thanked Leola Lee, chair of the Equity/Civil Rights Committee, Esther Rogers-Page, Chair of the Community Services Committee and Mabel Thomas, president of Retires Club 95 for “their support and tireless efforts in this holiday donation.”

Some of the items purchased towards the donation include 46 coats; 54 pairs of socks; 34 pairs of boots; 23 pairs of gloves; 31 head bands; 17 knitted hats and various baby apparel to include blankets, bottles, baby oil and accessories.
