 Local 1040 of the Communications Workers of America will hold aCommunity and Union Labor of Love” day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the local, 230 Parkway Avenue, Trenton, NJ.

            The State Senate and Assembly has issued a proclamation honoring CWA Local 1040 for sponsoring the “Labor of Love Community Day”, and for the Union’s “abiding strength and profound commitment to the traditions of the Labor Movement, bringing working men and women together in efforts to achieve economic and social justice.”

The event will feature volunteer blood donations, blood pressure screenings, educational information on diabetes detection and treatment; food, face painting, fun and entertainment for the entire family.

Lonnie Allgood, former NFL player with the Cincinnati Bengals, will be on hand to speak to the children and their families about his success on and off the field. A graduate of Syracuse University, Allgood was drafted by the Bengals out of Syracuse.  He is a well known motivational speaker, offering guidance and encouragement to children and young adults.

Both the Ewing and Trenton Fire Departments, and the Police Department, will attend the event.  Free smoke alarms will be distributed and tips on fire safety will be given.

Representatives from PSE&G will be on hand to offer information on how to apply for assistance in meeting heating and electrical bills.

TD Bank will distribute balloons to children, and hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.

An inflatable gym will be available for the children’s enjoyment.  And the Local 1040 Education Committee will offer information on how to apply for scholarship grants.

Local 1040 of the CWA is sponsoring the event in conjunction with Local 1040’s Community Services Committee, Women’s Committee, Education Committee and Equity Committee.
